MapleMaple

If you have ridden a modern 7-ply skateboard you have experienced maple in a deck. In fact, most longboards have maple in them because it is an easily accessible material. Maple is one of the densest hardwoods in North America. It works great for battling abrasion and impact. That is why we use it for top and bottom plies. We trust in this mighty tree to protect the finely tuned biocomposites in the center of your board.

e2eBiocomposites by e2e Materials

e2e Materials produces petroleum-free, biodegradable composites that are stronger and lighter than the composites filling landfills today. The e2e material platform properties are comparable to midrange steels, delivering tremendous strength to weight ratios. These fully biodegradable materials are made from annually renewable resources, including soy proteins and natural fibers such as bamboo, jute, flax, hemp, and kenaf. We use a two-layer torsion box configuration similar to most snowboards, maximizing the e2e soy protein and bio-fiber cross-linking matrix.

PoplarPoplar Core

This is a tried and true Comet original core design. Each core is individually profiled to specifications unique to our boards. Poplar has characteristics similar to bamboo. Although it is a hardwood, it can be harvested within thirteen years of planting. Poplar’s long grain and stiff fibers can run the length of a skateboard, which increases strength and flexibility and means flex pattern memory is retained. We use clear grain FSC-certified poplar sourced within 100 miles of our factory. Poplar is also ideal because of its strength to weight ratio. For instance, one of our ¼” Vertlam poplar cores weighs 11 ounces less than an equivalent maple core and five ounces less than bamboo.
